Ath. Bilbao vs Barcelona: Live Stream, Soccer, updates from Preview

FC Barcelona are set to take on Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish La Liga game on Saturday night, 8th February 2019 at San Memes Stadium. Barcelona can stretch their lead at top of the league and continue their absolute beast form so far this season with yet another win which will take them to 28 Points in 10 matches, Bilbao are anything but pushovers, specially playing at home. The game will kickoff at around 20:45 CET / 19:45 uk time and we will have live links as well as match highlights right here on this page.

Ath. Bilbao vs Barcelona – Match Highlights
Spanish La Liga 2019 Season
Date: Friday, 8 February 2019 – Kickoff: 20:45 CET / 19:45 UK Time
Venue: San Meme Stadium
Highlights: Match highlights for the first leg will be available after the game at around 15:15 uk time. So check back after the game for extended highlights.

Team News & Lineups: Athletic Bilbao will be without the services of Aritz Arduriz who was the star player when Athletic Bilbao defeated Barcelona 4-0 earlier in the season but his omission is likely to trigger some positive changes with Sabin Merino leading the forward line alongside highly rated Iker Munian and Inaki Williams. The trio can make all sorts of problems for Barcelona if Athletic defense can hold off Barcelona attacking trio.

Neymar, Messi and Suarez will start while Arda Turan is set to start in place of Ivan Rakitic alongside Iniesta and Sergio Busquest in midfield. Regular back four of Pique, Mascherano, Dani Alves and Jordi Alba with Claudio Bravo set to keep his place in goal. This is how I expect both teams to lineup on Sunday night.

Valverde’s Athletic Bilbao are a difficult team to break down and Barcelona found it first hand in the first leg when they frustrated Barcelona and actually took a 2 goal lead. However a late Lionel Messi goal gave Barcelona away goal which means Luis Enrique side can qualify with 1-0 win.

Aston Villa vs Sheffield Utd: Live Stream, Soccer, updates from Preview

James Chester could return for Aston Villa after training twice this week.

The defender missed the 0-0 draw at Reading with a knee injury and will be assessed ahead of Sheffield United’s visit.

Jack Grealish is still out with a shin injury but is closing in on a return after two months out, while Andre Green is back from a hamstring injury. Axel Tuanzebe (foot) and Henri Lansbury (hamstring) are out along with goalkeeper Orjan Nyland (Achilles).

Sheffield United are without Aston Villa loanee Scott Hogan for Friday’s game. The striker is ineligible under the terms of his loan from Villa after he joined for the rest of the season last week.

Boss Chris Wilder has said he has some big selection calls to make but feels his squad are in good shape. United will go top of the Sky Bet Championship with victory ahead of the weekend’s games.

Highlights of the Sky Bet Championship match between Reading and Aston Villa.

Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last 11 home league games against Sheffield United (W7 D4), last suffering defeat in January 1966 in the top-flight (0-2).

Sheffield United have only won one of their seven away league games against Aston Villa in the second tier (D2 L4) – a 3-1 win in February 1960.

Aston Villa have found the back of the net in each of their last 27 league games at Villa Park – their longest such scoring run since a streak of 33 ending in December 1983.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs New Orleans Pelicans: Live Stream, NBA Basketball, updates from Preview

The Minnesota Timberwolves will try to avoid their third straight loss on Friday when they go on the road to face the New Orleans Pelicans. After losing three straight games, the Pelicans finally showed some fight on Wednesday night by knocking off the Chicago Bulls. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have lost five of their last six games, including Thursday night’s game against the Orlando Magic.

The Timberwolves put on their best offensive performance in the last six games in Thursday night’s showdown with the Magic. They were well on their way to their first win in three games, but as bad teams often do, they found a way to lose in the crucial moments. Magic guard Terrence Ross, on the other hand, found a way to lead his team to victory by catching fire from beyond the arc and showing off some magic of his own.

He came off the bench and dropped six 3-pointers on the Timberwolves on a night where he scored 32 points. It has been a common theme for the Timberwolves to watch helplessly as their would-be victory is snatched from the jaws of defeat. Make no mistake, interim head coach Ryan Saunders had a nightmare situation dropped in his lap, but he is making the most of his opportunity and showing the ability to learn and adapt.

Unfortunately for the Timberwolves, losing is a part of the growing process, and that process continued emphatically in the 122-112 loss to the Magic.

Star center Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 27 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, while forward Andrew Wiggins contributed 23 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.
Pelicans beat Bulls and keep Davis

It’s going to be a long and awkward next couple months for the Pelicans.

As expected, they’ve opted to keep star forward Anthony Davis for a little while longer in an attempt to maximize his trade value. Not even a reported king’s ransom from the Los Angeles Lakers could sway the Pelicans into sending the perennial All-Star out west to team-up with LeBron James. Yet, the decision to bypass a trade leaves a festering situation that could grow into a big problem before the season ends.

Davis has already made it known that he isn’t interested in a contract extension, and the Pelicans had the valid, yet petty, response of removing him from the team’s pregame hype video. The expectation is for Davis to sit out the rest of the season, while the Pelicans focus on other players and build for the future.

That journey continued in Wednesday night’s win over the Bulls, as Davis quietly watched from the bench. The Pelicans shot 52.9 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from 3-pointer. Center Julius Randle had a monster night off the bench with 31 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the 125-120 win. Jrue Holiday also had a great night with 18 points, six rebounds and 11 assists.

Denver Nuggets vs Philadelphia 76ers: Live Stream, NBA Basketball, updates from Preview

The Denver Nuggets pay a visit to the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center on Friday night.

The Denver Nuggets have won eight of their last 11 games and they were one of the hottest teams in the league when they were riding a six-game win streak, but they’re now looking to snap a two-game skid after falling short against the Nets in a 135-130 road loss on Wednesday. Nikola Jokic led the team with a triple-double of 25 points with 14 rebounds and 10 assists, Miles Plumlee added 24 points on 10 of 12 shooting, Jamal Murray added 19 points with 11 assists while Monte Morris chipped in with 18 points and five assists off the bench. As a team, the Nuggets shot 50 percent from the field and 13 of 35 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 35 points in the first quarter before getting outscored by a combined 78-52 in the second and third quarter to fall behind by as many as 21 points before a late charge kept the final scores respectable.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers have been in decent shape as they’ve won seven of their past 11 games, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling short against the Raptors in a 119-107 home loss on Tuesday. Joel Embiid led the team with 37 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks, Ben Simmons added 20 points with six assists while Jimmy Butler chipped in with 18 points and five assists. As a team, the 76ers shot 44 percent from the field and seven of 29 from the 3-point line, but they were always fighting an uphill battle after the Raptors stormed out of the gates to lead by 17-point lead going into halftime. With the loss, Philadelphia fell to 34-20 overall and 21-6 at home.

Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Friday games, 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against a team above .600. The 76ers are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games following a loss of more than 10 points, 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games against a team above .600 and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games following a loss.

Head to head, the road team is 19-6-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings, the underdog is 9-4-1 ATS in the last 14 meetings and the Nuggets are 2-7-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

The Nuggets are looking to get back on track after stumbling against the Nets on Wednesday, but they’re coming up against a 76ers team looking to try out their new recruit in Tobias Harris who they acquired from the Clippers. I’m tempted to take the more settled Nuggets unit but they’re just 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games, so I’m sticking with the 76ers who are 7-2-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall.

Kentucky vs Mississippi State: Live Stream, NCAA men’s basketball, updates from Preview

One of the hottest college basketball teams in the country, the No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats visit the Magnolia State Saturday to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs (CBS, noon).

Kentucky has bounced back powerfully from a humiliating season-opening loss to Duke. The Wildcats have won nine games in a row, and have covered seven straight against betting market point spreads. In order, cover margins of 12.5, 6.5, 14, 2.5 (vs. Kansas), 26.5, 7.5, and 12 points show you how much Kentucky has lifted its performance above recent expectations. The Wildcats are averaging a double-digit cover through that sizzling seven.

Mississippi State recently dropped out of the AP rankings, and is coming off a heartbreaking 92-88 overtime loss to No. 21 LSU Wednesday night as three-point favorites. State had trouble stopping the Tigers inside the arc … allowing 60 percent shooting on two-point shots and 13 offensive rebounds, while putting LSU on the line to shoot 19 of 25 on free throws. That non-cover dropped MSU to 3-6 against the spread its last nine outings.

Kentucky will be a clear market favorite … and could post another easy cover if Mississippi State isn’t able to toughen up defensively inside.

A busy Saturday in the SEC also features Ole Miss at Georgia (SEC Network, noon).

Ole Miss has cooled off against market expectations after a fantastic 14-1 ATS start. The Rebels are now 1-4 ATS their last five games. Wednesday night’s 75-71 victory over Texas A&M finished well below the 10-point spread.

The good news from Wednesday is that Texas A&M had to shoot over its heads from long range (11 of 23) to hang with the Rebels. Ole Miss won two-point shooting 47% to 44%, turnovers 18-12, and made free throws 18-4 because it did a better job of attacking the basket. Those are good showings in important fundamentals categories for the postseason.

Ole Miss will likely be a short road favorite Saturday at Georgia, and needs to maintain focus to solidify its spot in Big Dance bracket projections.

Respected “bracketology” estimates currently show …

▪ Tennessee and Kentucky fighting for spots on the #1 or #2 rungs.

▪ LSU, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss in the #5 to #8 range (though both MSU and Ole Miss will start drifting further down the ladder if recent ATS trends continue).

▪ Alabama and Florida on the bubble, but with resume’s that would currently get them into the Dance.

That’s EIGHT teams from the SEC with a chance to make headlines and create “shining moments” next month.

Butler vs Georgetown: Live Stream, NCAA men’s basketball, updates from Preview

With just over a month remaining until Selection Sunday, Butler basketball remains firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble. On the whole, the Dawgs might not be featured in many bracketology projected fields at this point in time but they are consistently in the first group on the outside looking in. In our most recent bracketology field here at Busting Brackets, the Dawgs were the second team out of the field.

Given this, it is obvious that Butler needs to snag some wins down the stretch of their season in order to go dancing. And while the Big East might not be nearly as strong as it has been in the past, winning games is not easy. The conference might be the most competitive from top-to-bottom as just about anyone could snag an at-large bid if they catch fire down the stretch while the league could also be limited to just three bids.

With a road matchup against Georgetown coming up next on the schedule, Butler basketball has a chance to not only exact revenge but also snag a much-needed win for its resume. The Hoyas might not be an NCAA Tournament team at this point in time either but they are not all that far off and a road win over them would go a long way.

With a win this weekend, Butler would move into the majority of bracketology projected fields, in my opinion, because other bubble teams would drop games. How, though, will they be able to leave the nation’s capital with a win over Georgetown?

Providence vs St. John’s: Live Stream, NCAA men’s basketball, updates from Preview

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Rodney Bullock scored 13 points with eight rebounds, Kyron Cartwright added 10 points and the two seniors led Providence past St. John’s 61-57 on Senior Day, the regular-season finale Friday.

The Friars (19-12, 10-8) next play in a Big East Tournament quarterfinals Thursday as a No. 4 seed and St. John’s plays in the first round on Wednesday as the ninth seed.

Bashir Ahmad scored five of his 12 points in a 9-1 run for the Red Storm (15-16, 4-14) late in the game and Justin Simon dunked to bring the Red Storm within 50-47 with 3:30 to play.

Cartwright nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key to stretch the lead and Providence closed it out going 8 of 10 at the free throw line in the last 38 seconds.

Marvin Clark led St. John’s with 14 points, Simon finished with 13 and Tariq Owens 12. The Red Storm were 5-2 in February.

Oklahoma State vs Kansas: Live Stream, NCAA men’s basketball, updates from Preview

Homecourt advantage in venerable Allen Fieldhouse, one Big 12 basketball venue that is consistently sold out, has never meant more to Kansas.

If the Jayhawks are to extend a 14-year streak of conference championships, they cannot stumble at home.

Even then, the support they receive in a noisy limestone barn that opened in 1955 can only be tapped for half of the Big 12 schedule. Playing at home should help Saturday when Oklahoma State (9-13, 2-7 Big 12) visits No. 13 Kansas (17-6, 6-4), but a woeful 1-6 mark on the road factors into the 7-6 run the Jayhawks have managed since late December, while steadily falling in the polls.

“It’s leadership, it’s toughness, it’s inexperience,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “There’s a lot of things that go into it.”

Sophomore guard Marcus Garrett, the Jayhawks’ top defender, missed the last two games with an ankle injury. Junior center Udoka Azubuike is out for the season with a wrist injury. Sophomore forward Silvio De Sousa won’t play at all this season after receiving a suspension from the NCAA.

That left Self to provide more minutes Tuesday to backups guards Charlie Moore and K.J. Lawson, as well as forward Mitch Lightfoot, in a 74-67 loss at Kansas State. All showed the capacity to provide some punch, but by this time in the season, Self usually has ditched any experimentation and settled on a compact rotation.

After the Kansas State defeat, which left the Jayhawks two games behind the Big 12-leading Wildcats in the loss column, Self made it clear the Jayhawks lack toughness.

“I’m talking everything,” he said. “Mental, physical … yeah, this team doesn’t have much right now.”

Only one senior is on the roster. That would be guard Lagerald Vick, whose playing time has fluctuated greatly since the start of Big 12 play after he erupted as one of the nation’s deadliest 3-point threats early in the season.

Leadership, Self said, is “a collective effort” with this assortment of players, “because we’re not going to have one guy that’s going to be a take-charge guy.”

Coming off a performance that included 23 turnovers should motivate the Jayhawks. So too should a meeting against the Cowboys, who last year became the only Big 12 rival to ever sweep Kansas in conference play with Self, who is now in his 16th season, as head coach.

Oklahoma State, however, has been riddled by player dismissals, prompting Cowboys coach Mike Boynton and his staff to conduct midseason tryouts.

A 70-68 loss at TCU on Wednesday was Oklahoma State’s fifth straight conference defeat. The Cowboys rallied from a 13-point deficit to lead in the second half, but a last-second floater by TCU thwarted the comeback.

Two freshmen, forward Yor Anei and guard Isaac Likekele, scored 20 and 17 points, respectively to lead the Cowboys. Likekele added four steals, and Anei grabbed five rebounds.

“This year’s team, though young, will continue to take pride in who they represent,” said Boynton, who is in his second season.

Miami FL vs UNC: Live Stream, NCAA men’s basketball, updates from Preview

The Miami FL open up their ACC schedule at home against the UNC Tar Heels on Friday, Feb. 8.

The No. 16 Hurricanes are 3-1 this season and riding a three-game winning streak after losing their season opener to LSU. In last week’s 31-17 victory over Florida International, freshman quarterback N’Kosi Perry took control of the offense from senior Malik Rosier on the team’s third drive and immediately marched down the field for a score. Perry played the rest of the contest under center and went 17-for-25 for 224 yards and three touchdowns and he had 32 rushing yards. Coach Mark Richt has not made it known if Perry or Rosier will be starting against the Tar Heels.

UNC enters Thursday’s matchup at 1-2 coming off its first win of the season. A 24-17 loss to California and a 41-19 defeat at the hands of East Carolina had the Tar Heels off to a tough start this season, but a 38-35 win over Pittsburgh last week gave hope for an upset over Miami despite the game being on the road and on a short week. This is UNC’s first game against a ranked opponent since the contest scheduled against then-No. 18 UCF was canceled due to Hurricane Florence.

Wisconsin vs Michigan: Live Stream, NCAA men’s basketball, updates from Preview

College basketball wasted little time producing reverberations on what is the busiest day (150 games) of the 2018-19 schedule.

We entered Saturday with only two undefeated teams standing and will leave at most with one: Virginia.

That’s because Wisconsin played one of its best games of the season, knocking off previously flawless Michigan 64-54, giving the No. 2 Wolverines their first loss of the season and in the process leaving Michigan State as the only Big Ten unbeaten.

The Badgers (12-6, 4-3 Big Ten) also avoided taking a three-game home losing streak that, had it happened, would have introduced real concerns about them missing the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years. That hasn’t happened since the mid-1990s.

But those worries can be put aside — at least for now. In fact, the Badgers have been a metrics darling despite losing at least six of their first 17 games for the third time in four seasons. Wisconsin dropped four of its previous five tilts heading into the marquee Michigan matchup. Yet Greg Gard’s team comfortably ranked in the top 25 of multiple advanced metrics even before Saturday’s huge victory. Now we have a better idea why the computers trusted Wisconsin a bit more — and maybe this kind of win can pivot the season for the better for Bucky.

This kind of conquering is a reminder of how much of a grind the Big Ten is — hey, there are 10 teams with realistic NCAA Tournament outlooks at this point; the league ranks No. 1 at KenPom — and proof that it’s going to be tough for Michigan or Michigan State or maybe even Maryland to wind up atop the league table with fewer than four losses. It’s going to be a noisy next seven weeks in the Big Ten.

The Wolverines (17-1, 6-1) were undone in part by turnovers. They came into the game averaging just 9.4, among the best rates in college basketball. But Wisconsin induced John Beilein’s team into 16 giveaways.

Wisconsin was helped early thanks to its effectiveness in stopping Ignas Brazdeikis — who’s been one of the best freshmen in college basketball — and Charles Matthews. Both were scoreless in the first half. Brazdeikis, who leads the team in points average, finished without a point for the first time this season. That was a stunning development.

Additionally, the Wolverines managed just 1-of-7 from 3-point range through 20 minutes and were 5-of-18 for the game.

For Badger fans who’ve been a bit uneasy with how the program has dawdled much of the past two seasons, this win had to feel like a throwback. The Kohl Center was alive, Wisconsin won in a low-scoring affair and it never lost control of the game in the second half.

Obvious as it may seem, Saturday was a prime example of how Wisconsin’s greater outlook and long-term success will be in the hands of senior center Ethan Happ. The preseason CBS Sports Third Team All-America honoree had one of his best games, if not the best, of the season. In a big spot and against an exceptional defensive team with a quality frontline, Happ had 26 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Happ doesn’t have flashy highlights, but you’d be hard pressed to find 10 better all-around games by a player this season, considering the circumstances and opponent.

Happ’s not among the top three or four names for national player-of-the-year consideration at this stage, but if Wisconsin uses this win as a springboard to a big push in the Big Ten? And if Happ starts averaging in the neighborhood of 23/11/5 over the next month? Yes, he’ll be right there with Zion Williamson, Markus Howard, Grant Williams, Dedric Lawson, Ja Morant and others.

And while the headline for this is Michigan’s 17-0 school-record start ending, Wisconsin providing a win in its style and handcuffing the Wolverines is the bigger story. The last time Wisconsin won at home against a top-two team in the AP Top 25 came in 2011, when it knocked off then-No. 1 Ohio State. That Badgers club wound up making the Sweet 16 and finished third in what rated as the best conference in the nation.

Getting to third in this conference might be too tall a task, but the Sweet 16 doesn’t seem as tough in this moment as it did before the game tipped. Wisconsin, for the most part, has Michigan’s number.

The Wolverines are 5-17 vs. the Badgers since Beilein became
coach (2007-08). With the loss, Michigan also almost certainly misses its chance to get the No. 1 ranking in the AP Top 25, which it hasn’t acquired since January 2013.

Princeton vs Yale: Live Stream, NCAA men’s basketball, updates from Preview

The Princeton Tigers and the Yale Bulldogs meet in Ivy League college basketball action from John J. Lee Amphitheater on Friday night.

The Princeton Tigers will look to build on their current 7-game winning streak after a 70-61 overtime win over Cornell in their last outing. Richmond Aririguzoh led the Tigers with 20 points on 6 of 6 shooting with an 8 of 10 mark from the foul line and a team-high 3 assists while Myles Stephens added 15 points with 8 rebounds. Ryan Schwieger chipped in 14 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Princeton in the win. Jerome Desrosiers added 8 points and a team-high 9 rebounds as well in the victory. Devin Cannady led the Tigers in scoring with 20.4 points per game but is currently indefinitely suspended after an off-court incident, so Myles Stephens is the next leading scorer with 12.9 points and 6.4 rebounds while Jose Morales leads Princeton in assists with 2.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Princeton is averaging 70.5 points per game on 40.9% shooting from the field, 31.2% from behind the arc and 74% from the foul line this season.

The Yale Bulldogs will look to keep their momentum going after winning 12 of their last 14 games following an 89-68 win over Dartmouth in their last outing. Miye Oni led the Bulldogs with 31 points on 10 of 16 shooting with 4 threes and team-highs of 9 rebounds and 4 assists with a pair of steals. Blake Reynolds and Jordan Bruner each had 17 points on 7 made field goals with 3 threes to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Yale in the win, with Reynolds having a perfect shooting night from the floor, shooting 7 of 7 from the field in the win. Oni leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 16.8 points per game while Bruner leads Yale with averages of 8.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Yale is averaging 81.2 points per game on 48.6% shooting from the field, 36% from behind the arc and 69.6% from the foul line this season.

Princeton is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 conference games. Yale is 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 home games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 conference games while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Princeton is 1-5-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams at Yale.

Yale has been the hotter team over a longer stretch of time and has had the bulk of recent success at home against the Tigers, but something feels off about leaving this many points on the table with Princeton. The Tigers have been on fire ATS both overall and on the road as of late, and while I’m not sure that Princeton wins this outright, I think this game could be decided by a single bucket so I’ll take Princeton and the points in this one.

Columbia vs Harvard: Live Stream, NCAA men’s basketball, updates from Preview

The Columbia Lions and the Harvard Crimson meet in Ivy League college basketball action from the Lavietes Pavilion on Friday night.

The Columbia Lions will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 72-70 loss to Penn in their last outing. Gabe Stefanini led the Lions with 27 points on 12 of 20 shooting with a team-high 6 rebounds and 3 assists while Quinton Adlesh added 15 points with 3 assists and 3 steals as the only other Columbia player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Adlesh leads Columbia in scoring with 13.5 points per game while Stefanini leads the Lions in the assist department with 3.9 assists per game and Randy Brumant leads Columbia in rebounding with 5.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Columbia is averaging 73.1 points per game on 45.2% shooting from the field, 36.3% from behind the arc and 72.1% from the foul line this season.

The Harvard Crimson will be looking to build on their current 4-game winning streak after a 68-47 win over Brown last time out. Bryce Aiken led the Crimson with 12 points on 3 of 7 shooting with a pair of threes while Chris Lewis, Robert Baker and Justin Bassey each had 10 points to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for Harvard in the win with Baker pulling down a team-high 7 rebounds while Bassey grabbed 5 boards. Christian Juzang added 6 points and a team-high 4 assists as well in the winning effort for Harvard. Bassey leads Harvard with an average of 9.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while Juzang leads the Crimson in assists with 3.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Harvard is averaging 69.2 points per game on 47.3% shooting from the field, 36.8% from behind the arc and 67% from the foul line this season.

Columbia is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 conference games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Harvard is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win. Columbia is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams at Harvard.

Columbia had a close call against Penn, but were suffocated against the Ivy League’s best in Princeton before that. This is a lot of points to lay when the Lions have had lots of success in this matchup, but the fact is that Harvard is playing the much better basketball of the two sides and are outscoring opponents by 13.7 points per game during this current 4-game winning streak. I think Harvard will look to make a statement down the stretch and it starts with a double-digit win over Columbia here.

Penn vs Brown: Live Stream, NCAA men’s basketball, updates from Preview

The Penn Quakers and Brown Bears meet Friday in college basketball action at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

The Penn Quakers could use a win here after losing five of their last eight games. AJ Brodeur is averaging 15.8 points and 3.5 assists while Devon Goodman is averaging 13.1 points and 3.2 rebounds. Antonio Woods is dishing 2.7 assists and Michael Wang is grabbing 3.7 rebounds. The Bears are 0-8-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. Ivy League, 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 home games and 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Quakers are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Brown and 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings. The under is 19-7 in Bears last 26 overall. The over is 4-0 in Quakers last 4 overall.

The Penn Quakers have won four of the last five meetings against the Brown Bears and the last three wins have been decided by an average of 11.6 points. Penn has had no trouble winning on the road where it’s won six of its last nine tries and is outscoring teams by an average of 2.4 points. The Brown Bears have played their best ball by far at home, but they’re just 2-4-1 ATS and come into this contest shooting under 40 percent from the field in their last five games. This is a game that Penn should win and we’re not being asked to lay anything serious.

Detroit vs Northern KY: Live Stream, NCAA Men’s basketball, updates from Preview

The Detroit Mercy Titans will travel to BB&T Arena to take on the Northern KY Norse this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The Detroit Mercy Titans dropped to 9-14 (6-5 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Youngstown State Penguins, 72-70, this past Saturday. Detroit Mercy led by a 67-61 margin with just 4:04 left in regulation, however, struggled offensively down the stretch and allowed the Penguins to pull off the upset win after Devin Morgan’s three-pointer with :13 seconds left in regulation gave Youngstown State the lead for good. Detroit Mercy shot just 40.4% from the field and 34.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Titans was Antoine Davis who had 23 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist.

On the season, Detroit Mercy is averaging 72.6 ppg on 41.9% shooting from the field. The Titans are averaging 9.8 three-pointers per game on 37.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Detroit Mercy has been led by Antoine Davis (27.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.3 apg), Josh McFolley (12.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.9 spg), Willy Isiani (9.7 ppg, 1.7 rpg), and Derrien King (8.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.0 spg).

Defensively, Detroit Mercy is allowing their opponents to average 76.5 ppg on 45.5% shooting from the field. The Titans have a rebound margin of -6.3 and a turnover margin of 2.6.

The Northern Kentucky Norse lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 18-6 (8-3 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the UIC Flames, 69-67, this past Sunday. Northern Kentucky fought back from a 66-59 deficit with just 2:13 left in regulation to take a 67-66 lead, however, couldn’t secure the comeback victory after Jamie Ahale hit a game winning three-pointer for UIC with just :02 seconds left in regulation. Northern Kentucky shot just 41.7% from the field and 30.0% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Norse was Tyler Sharpe who had 20 points, 4 assists, 1 rebound, and 2 steals.

On the season, Northern Kentucky is averaging 78.9 ppg on 47.9% shooting from the field. The Norse are averaging 9.0 three-pointers per game on 36.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northern Kentucky has been led by Drew McDonald (18.9 ppg, 9.9 rpg, 2.7 apg), Tyler Sharpe (14.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.4 spg), Jalen Tate (13.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.0 spg), and Dantez Walton (11.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.0 spg).

Defensively, Northern Kentucky is holding their opponents to an average of 67.6 ppg on 40.8% shooting from the field. The Norse have a rebound margin of 4.0 and a turnover margin of 1.2.

The Titans are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Norse are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

Detroit Mercy has lost 4 of their last 5 games and although the Titans have been solid offensively from beyond the arc, the Titans currently rank just T-194th in scoring offense, 290th in scoring defense, and 276th in defensive FG%.

Northern Kentucky has won 6 of their last 8 games and has been solid on both ends of the court this season as the Norse rank 51st in scoring offense, 36th in FG%, and 46th in defensive FG%.

Detroit Mercy has the ability to stay in every game with the ability to hit the three-pointer, however, the Titans haven’t been great on the road this season and have lost their last two conference road games by an average of 13.5 ppg. Northern Kentucky is a perfect 13-0 at home this season and as I think the Norse will bounce back after back-to-back loses, I’m taking Northern Kentucky to cover this large home spread.

Western IL vs Fort Wayne: Live Stream, NCAA Men’s basketball, updates from Preview

The Western IL Leathernecks and Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons meet Thursday in college basketball action at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

The Western Illinois Leathernecks could use a win after losing six of their last eight games. The Western Illinois Leathernecks are averaging 70.8 points on 43.4 percent shooting and allowing 73.6 points on 44.8 percent shooting. Kobe Webster is averaging 17.5 points and 3.3 assists while C.J. Duff is averaging 11.5 points and 2.7 rebounds. The Western Illinois Leathernecks are allowing 38 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 32.3 rebounds per game. The Western Illinois Leathernecks have lost six of their last seven road games.

The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons also need a win after splitting their last six games. The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons are averaging 80.4 points on 47.7 percent shooting and allowing 81.6 points on 47.5 percent shooting. John Konchar is averaging 19.2 points and 5.2 assists while Kason Harrell is averaging 16.1 points and 3.6 rebounds. Matt Holba is the third double-digit scorer and Matt Weir is grabbing 1.3 rebounds. The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons are shooting 36.5 percent from beyond the arc and 69 percent from the free throw line. The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons are allowing 38.5 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 31.2 rebounds per game. The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons have won seven of their last eight home games.

The Leathernecks are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games, 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. Summit and 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall. The Mastodons are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games, 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win and 9-19-1 ATS in their last 29 games following a ATS loss. The Leathernecks are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Purdue Fort Wayne and 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The over is 37-17-1 in Mastodons last 55 overall. The under is 5-2 in Leathernecks last 7 Thursday games.

The Western Illinois Leathernecks beat the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons by 29 points less than a month ago as 4.5-point underdogs. Western Illinois has also won three of the last five meetings against the Mastodons overall. Western Illinois does come into this game struggling and is even worse on the road, but it’s not like Purdue Fort Wayne is lighting the world on fire and is only winning by an average of 1.4 points in its last five games. There’s better options on Thursday’s card, but if forced to pick this game, I have to play the history and side with the points.

UNC Wilmington vs Drexel: Live Stream, NCAA Men’s basketball, updates from Preview

The UNC Wilmington Seahawks and Drexel Dragons meet Thursday in college basketball action at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

The UNC Wilmington Seahawks need a win here after losing five of their last six games. The UNC Wilmington Seahawks are averaging 76.6 points on 45.1 percent shooting and allowing 82.9 points on 48.2 percent shooting. Devontae Cacok is averaging 15.7 points and 12.2 rebounds while Jeantal Cylla is averaging 13.6 points and 4.5 rebounds. Ty Gadsden is the third double-digit scorer and Kai Toews is dishing 7.8 assists. The UNC Wilmington Seahawks are shooting 36.2 percent from beyond the arc and 72.6 percent from the free throw line. The Drexel Dragons also need a win after splitting their last 10 games. The Drexel Dragons are averaging 75.5 points on 45.6 percent shooting and allowing 79.3 points on 49.1 percent shooting. Troy Harper is averaging 15.9 points and 2.9 rebounds while Alihan Demir is averaging 13.9 points and three assists. Trevor John is the third double-digit scorer and Camren Wynter is grabbing 4.8 rebounds. The Drexel Dragons are shooting 35. percent from beyond the arc and 76.1 percent from the free throw line. The Drexel Dragons are allowing 40.1 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 31.5 rebounds per game. The Drexel Dragons have split their last six home games.

The Seahawks are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 road games, 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. Colonial Athletic Association and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Dragons are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. Colonial Athletic Association, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Thursday games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Seahawks are 11-3-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings in Drexel and 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings. The under is 4-1 in Dragons last 5 overall. The over is 8-0 in Seahawks last 8 overall.

The UNC Wilmington Seahawks have won each of the last seven meetings against the Drexel Dragons, which includes a 14-point win last month. The downside is that UNC Wilmington isn’t nearly as good on the road where it’s losing by an average of 13 points while allowing 47.2 percent shooting. The Drexel Dragons are a solid 14-9 ATS this season and 6-4 ATS at home, and they’ve covered five straight games overall. If there was ever a time to snap the losing skid, it would be here against a Seahawks team that’s awful on the road. I’ll eat the reasonable number with the Dragons.

Hampton Pirates are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and over is 4-1 in Pirates last 5 vs. Big South and over is 4-1 in Pirates last 5 games following a ATS loss.

Oakland vs Wright State: Live Stream, College Basketball, updates from Preview

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies and the Wright State Raiders meet in Horizon League college basketball action from the Ervin J. Nutter Center on Thursday night.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies come into this game looking for some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 5 games following an 83-68 win over Cleveland State in their last outing. Brad Brechting led the Golden Grizzlies with 32 points on an extremely efficient 14 of 15 shooting night from the floor while Jaevin Cumberland added 20 points and 4 assists. Xavier Hill-Mais added 10 points with team-highs of 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the double-double to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Oakland in the win. Braden Norris added 3 triples for his 9 points along with 4 assists of his own as well in the victory. Hill-Mais leads Oakland with an average of 19.8 points and 7 rebounds per game while Norris leads the Golden Grizzlies in assists with 4.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Oakland is averaging 77.5 points per game on 46.9% shooting from the field, 39.5% from behind the 3-point line and 74.7% from the foul line this season.

The Wright State Raiders will look to keep their momentum going after winning 5 of their last 6 games following a 79-74 win over IUPUI in their last outing. Billy Wampler led the Raiders with 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting with 3 threes while Cole Gentry and Mark Hughes each had 13 points with Gentry adding a team-high 5 assists while Hughes led the Raiders with 7 rebounds. Loudon Love added 12 points to finish off the quartet of double-digit scorers for Wright State in the winning effort. Love leads Wright State with an average of 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while Cole Gentry leads the Raiders in assists with 3.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Wright State is averaging 72.8 points per game on 42.7% shooting from the field, 34.2% from behind the 3-point line and 74.9% from the foul line this season.

Oakland is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while the under is 21-5 in their last 26 conference games. Wright State is 5-16 ATS in their last 21 Thursday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record. Oakland is 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.

Wright State’s mark in conference is impressive, because a lot of the Raiders’ success has had to come on the road. However, while I think Wright State will win this game, this line feels a bit thick considering that in Oakland’s 11 conference games, 10 have either been wins or a loss by 3 points or less. I just think this is a case of too many points and given Oakland’s recent form ATS, I think the Golden Grizzlies and the points are the play in this matchup.

Charleston vs Delaware: Live Stream, College Basketball, updates from Preview

NEWARK, Del. — Joe Chealey scored 23 points, including four 3-pointers, and College of Charleston pulled away late to beat Delaware 62-54 on Thursday night.

Ryan Daly’s layup with 2:03 to play pulled the Blue Hens within 53-51, but Chealey and Cameron Johnson each hit a 3-pointer, and Delaware went 0 for 3 from the field, as Charleston scored nine of the last 12 points.

Ryan Allen had 19 points and Daly scored 12 for Delaware (11-11, 4-5). The Blue Hens made just 16 field goals and shot 29.6 percent — both season lows.

Houston vs UCF: Live Stream, College Basketball, updates from Preview

The 12th ranked Houston Cougars will travel to CFE Arena to take on the UCF Knights this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The 12th ranked Houston Cougars won their 6th straight game and improved to 21-1 (8-1 AAC) on the season after defeating the Temple Owls, 73-66, this past Thursday night. Houston was able to pull away from the Owls after taking a 67-57 lead with 2:04 left in regulation and got revenge on the Owls who handed Houston their only loss of the season in early January. Houston’s defense was solid in the victory as they held Temple to just 34.3% shooting from the field and 29.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Cougars was Corey Davis Jr. who had 24 points, 5 rebounds, and a steal.

On the season, Houston is averaging 75.5 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field. The Cougars are averaging 9.0 three-pointers per game on 34.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Houston has been led by Corey Davis Jr. (15.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.0 spg), Armoni Brooks (14.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.0 apg), Galen Robinson Jr. (8.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 5.3 apg, 1.3 bpg), and Dejon Jarreau (8.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.7 apg).

Defensively, Houston is holding their opponents to an average of 60.5 ppg on 36.3% shooting from the field. The Cougars have a rebound margin of 7.9 and a turnover margin of 1.1.

The UCF Knights improved to 16-4 (6-2 AAC) on the season after defeating the UConn Huskies, 73-67, this past Thursday. UCF was outstanding defensively in the 1st half against the Huskies and was able to maintain the lead throughout the 2nd half after entering halftime with a 34-22 lead. UCF shot 48.9% from the field and 36.4% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Knights was B.J. Taylor who had 21 points, 3 assists, and a steal.

On the season, UCF is averaging 73.6 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field. The Knights are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 34.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UCF has been led by B.J. Taylor (16.9 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 2.8 apg), Aubrey Dawkins (15.1 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.0 spg), Tacko Fall (9.8 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 2.8 bpg), and Terrell Allen (7.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.4 spg).

Defensively, UCF is holding their opponents to an average of 63.9 ppg on 39.3% shooting from the field. The Knights have a rebound margin of 1.9 and a turnover margin of 1.6.

The Cougars are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss and 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games vs. AAC opponents. The Knights are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 home games vs. a team with a winning road record, however, are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

Houston continues to pile up wins this season led by their defense that currently ranks 6th in scoring defense, 2nd in defensive FG%, and 11th in rebound margin.

UCF has won 10 of their last 12 games and has also been led by their defense as the Knights currently rank 25th in scoring defense, 14th in defensive FG%, and 31st in blocks per game.

Houston is an outstanding team, however, I’ve haven’t been overly impressed by the Cougars as of late on the road. UCF is a solid defensive team that could give Houston some trouble on their home court and as I think they’ll get enough offensive production by the duo of B.J. Taylor & Aubrey Dawkins, I’m taking UCF at home with the points.

Cincinnati vs Memphis: Live Stream, College Basketball, updates from Preview

Cincinnati is in search of its eighth consecutive victory when it travels to Memphis on Thursday night in a classic trap game for the No. 25 Bearcats at FedEx Forum.

The Bearcats (19-3) entered the Top 25 for the first time all season and embark on a two-game road trip that starts against the Tigers and ends at No. 12 Houston on Sunday. The Bearcats and Cougars are tied atop the American Athletic Conference at 8-1.

Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin couldn’t care less about the Top 25.

“I’m more worried about Selection Sunday,” Cronin said Monday. “… I don’t worry about the Top 25 rankings. I’d rather win on gameday. I don’t say this to be condescending, but what writers think about us or any team, they’re not in the room on Selection Sunday … It’s exciting for your fans and for your players and stuff like that.”

It would be easy for the Bearcats to look past Memphis ahead to Sunday’s titanic matchup in Houston; the Tigers (13-9, 5-4) limp into the contest as losers of two straight and three of their past four.

Cincy leans heavily on superstar junior guard Jarron Cumberland, second in the AAC in scoring at 18.7 points per game. He’s scored 23 points or more in three straight games and notched a season-high 34 points on Jan. 15 against South Florida.

Cumberland scored 24 to rally the Bearcats to a 73-68 win over SMU on Saturday.

But the Tigers can score points in bunches. Memphis leads the AAC in scoring at 82.8 points per game, also good enough for 21st in the country, more than seven points per game better than the Bearcats.

Senior guard Jeremiah Martin leads the Tigers with 16.3 points per game, followed by senior forward Kyvon Davenport (14.4) and freshman guard Tyler Harris (12.6).

Martin went for 41 — all in the second half — in the Tigers’ 84-78 loss to South Florida on Saturday. Martin moved into 21st on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,275 points. His effort set a school record for points in a half and was the first 40-point performance by a Tigers player since Marcus Moody scored 41 in 1997.

“It really doesn’t feel good because we lost,” Martin said after the game. “If we would have won, it would have been great, I would have been happy.

Central CT St vs St Francis PA: Live Stream, College Basketball, updates from Preview

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) Keith Braxton led the way with 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists as St. Francis (Pa.) raced past Central Connecticut State 80-69 on Saturday.

Jamaal King and Andre Wolford each scored 16 for the Red Flash (7-9, 3-2 Northeast Conference) – Wolford shooting a season-high 5 of 11 from beyond the arc.

St. Francis was down five, 39-34, at the break and trailed by eight when Central Connecticut’s Ian Krishman opened the second half with a 3-pointer. Wolford answered with a trey plus a free throw after a Blue Devils turnover and King added a fast-break layup after pulling down the rebound of a CCSU miss and Braxton boosted the Red Flash into a 45-43 lead with a 3-pointer after another defensive rebound.

A Braxton 3-point play forged a 61-61 tie and St. Francis outscored CCSU 19-8 over the final nine minutes.

Jamir Coleman scored 17 points to lead the Blue Devils (8-10, 2-3). Krishman and Joe Hugley added 11 each.

Raymundo Beltran vs. Hiroki Okada: Live Stream, Boxing Full Fight, updates from Preview

It took Raymundo Beltran four tries to win a lightweight world title and fulfill his dream last February when he outpointed Paulus Moses, but he lost the belt in his first defense to Jose Pedraza six months later. Now Beltran is beginning his quest for another opportunity.

Beltran is moving up to junior welterweight and will return to face Hiroki Okada on Feb. 10 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, Top Rank announced on Wednesday.

The 10-round bout will serve as the co-feature for the previously announced fight between junior welterweight world titlist Jose Ramirez and Jose Zepeda, which headlines the Top Rank Boxing on ESPN card (ESPN and ESPN Deportes, 7 p.m., with full card streaming on ESPN+ beginning at 4 p.m. ET).

Beltran (35-8-1, 21 KOs), 37, of Phoenix, said he is open to fighting in either the junior welterweight or lightweight division — wherever he can get another chance to fight for a world title.

“I am excited about 2019, and this camp has been a great way to start my journey to another world-title opportunity,” Beltran said. “If it’s at 140, then I will be a two-division world champion, and if it’s at 135, then I will be a two-time lightweight champion. I will leave that to Top Rank and my manager, Steven Feder,” Beltran said. “I made some changes and am now working with (trainer) Marvin Somodio, who for many years learned from the great Freddie Roach. Marvin and my longtime strength coach, Bryan McComb, are bringing me back to the skills and basics that got me here. I’m a boxer, I’m a prizefighter, and that’s what my fans will see Feb. 10.”

Okada (19-0, 13 KOs), 29, of Japan, signed with Top Rank last year and made his debut for the company on Sept. 14 on the undercard of Ramirez’s last fight, also at the Save Mart Center.

“To challenge for the world title, I’ve got to beat Beltran,” Okada said. “As a former world champion, I know he’s highly skilled. I know he’s tough, so I’ll be prepared for a good fight. It’s an honor to be able to fight him, and I’m confident that I will win. I’ve watched his fights on video, and I believe in my power coming into this fight.”

The ESPN+ portion of the card will include junior featherweight contender Genesis Servania (32-1, 15 KOs), 27, of the Philippines, against Carlos Castro (21-0, 9 KOs), 24, of Phoenix. Servania has won three fights in a row by knockout since losing a decision challenging featherweight titlist Oscar Valdez and eventually moving down in weight.

“I’m really looking forward to my next fight in Fresno because my opponent is a good fighter. He is undefeated,” Servania said. “I want to fight tough opponents.”

Castro is taking a step up in opposition to face his first world-class opponent.

“It has been a tough road to get to 21-0, but it also has been a great experience,” Castro said. “This upcoming fight is another important step towards a world-title fight. I know exactly who Servania is, and I will be ready for him.

Jose Ramirez vs. Jose Zepeda: Live Stream, Boxing Full Fight, updates from Preview

WBC super lightweight world champion Jose Ramirez, the pride of California’s Central Valley, is returning home on a pair of missions.

First, he aims to make the second defense of his world title against Jose “Chon” Zepeda on Sunday, Feb. 10 at his favorite fistic venue, the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. He also hopes, along with the Central Valley community, to continue the fight against cancer.

Ramirez-Zepeda and a soon-to-be announced co-feature will headline a special Top Rank on ESPN card beginning at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. Ramirez will auction off his fight-worn trunks, special gloves, shirt, and shoes, with all proceeds benefitting the Community Cancer Institute in Clovis, Calif. A portion of all ticket sales will also be donated to the Community Cancer Institute.

The entire undercard will stream live beginning at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

Promoted by Top Rank, tickets to this world championship event, priced at $150, $90, $60, $35, and $25, go on sale Monday, Dec. 24 at 10 a.m. PST and can be purchased at the Save Mart Center box office,, or by calling 800-745-3000.

“Jose Ramirez is a great young champion and an even better person,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “We are proud to be involved with an event that will raise a tremendous amount of exposure for cancer research. Zepeda is a really tough fighter who will give Jose an excellent fight. The fans in the Central Valley have supported Jose since day one, and I expect another fantastic crowd at the Save Mart Center.”

“I feel blessed to defend my title a second time at home against a great opponent and also support an issue that affects everyone and their families,” Ramirez said. “Let’s all band together to ‘KO Cancer’ and remember that every moment counts.”

Said Rick Mirigian, Ramirez’s adviser: “I’m honored to help put together this event for a great cause. We encourage everyone for National Cancer Prevention Month in February to get your health checked out because every moment matters in this fight.”

“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity since my first world title shot against Terry Flanagan,” Zepeda said. “I’m going to train very hard, better than ever before. I’m very thankful to my team and Jose Ramirez for giving me this chance. I’m not going to waste it, and that’s why I’m training so hard.”

Ramirez (23-0, 16 KOs), a 2012 U.S. Olympian from Avenal, Calif., is a sporting hero in California’s Central Valley for his commitment to immigration causes, water rights for area farmers, and his involvement with the Community Cancer Institute. Inside the ring, he has established himself as a 140-pound wrecking ball. He won the WBC super lightweight world title on March 17 in New York City, grinding down Amir Imam to win a wide unanimous decision. In his first title defense, Sept. 14 at the Save Mart Center, he dropped the previously unbeaten Antonio Orozco twice in a Fight of the Year contender en route to a unanimous decision victory in front of 11,102 fans.

This marks Ramirez’s fifth headlining appearance at the Save Mart Center, where he has established himself as one of boxing’s biggest ticket-sellers. His four previous Save Mart Center appearances have drawn a total of 51,760 fans through the turnstiles, and another packed house is expected for title defense number two.

Zepeda (30-1, 25 KOs), a hard-hitting southpaw from La Puente, Calif., is on an eight-bout unbeaten streak dating back to July 11, 2015, the evening he fought Terry Flanagan for the WBO lightweight world title in Manchester, England. It was a competitive contest until Zepeda suffered a dislocated shoulder in the second round and was forced to retire on his stool following the round. He earned the shot at Ramirez with a run that included a first-round TKO against former world title challenger Ammeth Diaz and a sixth-round TKO versus Abner Lopez.

Gervonta Davis vs. Hugo Ruiz: Live Stream, Boxing Full Fight, updates from Preview

Just three weeks after his last fight, Mexican boxer Hugo “Cuatito” Ruiz will return to the ring with the dream of winning his third divisional world title, with confidence in his punch and the belief that he can shock the champion Gervonta Davis.

Davis was scheduled to defend the super featherweight title of the World Boxing Association (WBA) against Abner Mares, who suffered a detached retina and was forced to withdraw from Saturday’s fight in Carson, California. When he received the call, Ruiz did not hesitate to accept the opportunity.

“We had already seen him fight, I do not rule out an upset, we can emerge victorious. I can give him a real surprise in the ring, I’m a boxer with a punch and I can achieve a surprise at any time,” Ruiz said in an interview with the news agency Notimex.

On January 19 in Las Vegas, Ruiz was set to fight for the WBA’ interim featherweight title against Jhack Tepora, who could not make the weight and the contest was canceled, but not the participation of Ruiz – who won a unanimous decision over Alberto Guevara

“(That contest) was not very demanding, Guevara did not present a fight, it was like training for me. I continued training and since then there wasn’t much wear … then they spoke to me and I get this big surprise with a fight on the 9th of February,” Ruiz said.

In addition to the motivation and preparation, Ruiz said that the work for his last two fights has been to measure himself against left-handed fighters like Davis, “I’ve been working for almost five months” to challenge someone like Davis.

“I rested for three or four days and then I started training, I came in condition, I did not want to waste it, I went to the gym, they spoke to me about this fight, so I decided to take it. I took it because I feel capable of giving a great fight,” Ruiz said.

Joseph Diaz Jr vs Charles Huerta: Live Stream, Boxing Full Fight, updates from Preview

Golden Boy Promotions’ upcoming boxing card on DAZN next month will feature a number of top names inside the company’s stable of fighters.

Not were two world title fights announced for the show, set to take place on February 9, but a pair of former title challengers as well among other boxers. The biggest name of the non-title bouts is Joseph Diaz Jr. taking on Charles Huerta. It will be Diaz’s first fight since beating WBA “Regular” featherweight champion Jesus Rojas in a non-title bout. Diaz’s fight will be for 10 rounds in the super featherweight division.

Also announced for the card is former super bantamweight title challenger Azat Hovhannisyan facing an opponent to be named at a later date. Hovhannisyan is coming off a win over Jesus Martinez in October when Hovhannisyan won the fight with a fourth-round knockout. It was Hovhannisyan’s first win since unsuccessfully challenging for the WBC title this past May.

Below are the following undercard fights for the February 9 DAZN Boxing card from the Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio, California. Opponents for some of the fighters on the undercard will be announced soon.

Rey Vargas vs Franklin Manzanilla: Live Stream, Boxing Full Fight, updates from Preview

Rey Vargas February 9th title defense against Andrew Cancio in Indio will be joined by a second championship bout, this one pitting WBC super bantamweight champion Rey Vargas against Venezuelan puncher Franklin Manzanilla.

Manzanilla (18-4, 17 KO) had yet to face a strong opponent before stepping in as cannon fodder for top contender Julio Ceja, who had briefly held the interim title. He wound up springing one of the year’s bigger upsets, smashing Ceja’s nose to the point where the fight was called after four.

Vargas (32-0, 22 KO), has not fought since a competitive decision over Azat Hovhannisyan last May, dealing with shoulder surgery and a subsequent bout with pneumonia. This will be the fourth defense of his title, which he won with a majority decision over Gavin McDonnell in 2017.

Whoever wins this will likely go on to face interim champion Tomoki Kameda, who defeated Abigail Medina for the belt late last year.

Alberto Machado vs Andrew Cancio: Live Stream, Boxing Full Fight, updates from Preview

Two world title fights will head to the Coachella Valley in February as Golden Boy Promotions presents another exciting night of boxing on DAZN. In the main event, Alberto “Explosivo” Machado (21-0, 17 KOs) will defend his WBA Super Featherweight World Title against Andrew “El Chango” Cancio (19-4-2, 14 KOs) in a 12-round clash. In the co-main event, Rey Vargas (32-0, 22 KOs) will put his WBC Super Bantamweight World Championship on the line against Franklin Manzanilla (18-4, 17 KOs) in a 12-round battle. The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. and will be streamed live on DAZN – which is just $9.99 per month after a one-month free trial.

“Golden Boy Promotions has promised to bring exciting fights every month on DAZN,” said Oscar De La Hoya, CEO and Chairman of Golden Boy Promotions. “We’re keeping our promise by bringing two world title fights featuring a world champion from Puerto Rico in Alberto Machado and one from Mexico in Rey Vargas. The best talent from these two countries, which have a rich history in the sport of boxing, will be on display for fans to watch at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino or from home on DAZN.”

Machado, a 28-year-old of San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a big man for his division and boasts explosive power in both hands. After unifying two regional titles with a dominant unanimous decision victory against Carlos “The Solution” Morales, Machado defeated Jezreel “El Invisible” Corrales by way of eighth-round knockout to capture WBA Super Featherweight World Title in Oct. 2017. The hard-hitting southpaw has retained his title against the likes of Rafael “Sweet Pea” Mensah and Yuandale “Money Shot” Evans and will look to make a third defense against Cancio.

“I am very hungry to go to Los Angeles and start camp for Andrew Cancio,” said Alberto Machado.”Cancio is a great warrior with good experience and will come very hungry, but I will prepare myself responsibly as he is a great challenge for my career. A victory over him will take me further to what I want to achieve in this sport. This will be the third defense of my title, and now I am going in with more experience. I look forward to retaining my championship and returning to Puerto Rico as a world champion.”

Cancio is a 30-year-old contender who recently re-signed with Golden Boy Promotions after scoring a sensational technical knockout victory against then-undefeated prospect
Aida Sharibayev. The native of Blythe, Calif. has victories against the likes of Rocky Juarez, Jerry “The Corpus Christi Kid” Belmontes and Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado, and he’s also been in tough fights against Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. and
Ronny Rios in a professional career that started over 12 years ago. Needless to say, Cancio has worked hard for his title shot.

“I’m very excited and grateful for this opportunity to fight for a world title,” said Andrew Cancio. “Thanks very much to my manager Ray Chaparro and the Golden Boy Promotions Team, along with DAZN. I’ve watched many of Alberto Machado’s fights and know how great of a fighter he is. However, I’ve already started training and will be well prepared on February 9 to win the world title in front of my fans at Fantasy Springs who have always been so very supportive.”

“We are excited to start 2019 with a great fight for Alberto Machado on DAZN,” said Miguel Cotto, President of Miguel Cotto Promotions.”We are committed together with Golden Boy Promotions to bringing the best fights with the best fighters in the world. We know what Machado he is capable of doing. He will enter the ring as a champion and leave the ring as a champion on February 9.”

As mentioned above, Rey Vargas will defend his 122-pound title against Franklin Manzanilla in the 12-round co-main event. Vargas is a 28-year-old world champion who brings a considerable height and reach advantage to every fight, which he has used to defend his titles against the likes of Ronny Rios, Oscar “El Jaguar” Negrete and Azat “Crazy A” Hovhannisyan.

“Franklin Manzanilla is a complete fighter,” said Rey Vargas. “He’s tough and goes forward, but he also knows how to box. He’s a strong fighter, and he showed that by defeating Julio Ceja in four rounds to earn the right to fight for a world title. Manzanilla also hits hard. I’ve seen this, and his record indicates that as well. However, I also believe he has some deficiencies in his defense, and that’s what we’re going to try to take advantage of in this fight. Lastly, I invite all the people to watch this fight because it’s going to be a war, and God willing I will walk away with my hand raised high.”

Manzanilla is a 30-year-old native of Caracas, Venezuela who will fight in the United States for the first time.

Manzanilla is coming off a victory against Julio Ceja for the WBC Silver Super Bantamweight Title, earning him a shot at Vargas in February.

“I’m training very hard to be well prepared,” said Franklin Manznilla. “However, we still haven’t even begun the hard stages of preparation that will have us in excellent condition to give everything in the ring. Rey Vargas is a great fighter who is always well prepared for his fights. He throws a lot of punches, which means we have to be double prepared for this bout. It’s going to be a great fight, and I invite everyone to watch it because they will witness a great upset and will get to know Franklin Manzanilla, a fighter who is preparing physically and mentally to become the new world champion.”

“Rey Vargas is the best super bantamweight in the world,” said Oswaldo Kuchle, President of Promociones del Pueblo. “He will put on a great show on Feb. 9 with his excellent boxing skills. Without a doubt, I think it will be a great and explosive fight that will delight fans in the arena.”

The undercard of this event will be filled with contenders and prospects from the exclusive Golden Boy Promotions stable.

Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. (27-1, 14 KOs) of South El Monte, Calif. will return in a 10-round super featherweight battle against Charles Huerta (20-5, 12 KOs) of Paramount, Calif.

Genaro “El Conde” Gamez (8-0, 5 KOs) will battle against Ivan “Striker” Delgado (13-1-2, 6 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight battle between a current Golden Boy prospect and an ex-Golden Boy fighter.

Oscar Duarte (15-0-1, 10 KOs) of Parral, Mexico will participate in a 10-round fight in the lightweight division.

Azat “Crazy A” Hovhannisyan (15-3, 12 KOs) of Los Angeles, Calif. will compete in a 10-round super bantamweight fight.

Ferdinand “Lucky Boy” Kerobyan (11-0, 6 KOs) of North Hollywood, Calif. will return in an eight-round super welterweight battle.

Hometown hero Rommel Caballero (4-0, 3 KOs) of Coachella, Calif. will open the night of action in a six-round super featherweight battle.

Opponents for the undercard fighters will be announced shortly.

Machado vs. Cancio is a 12-round fight for the WBA Super Featherweight World Title presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Miguel Cotto Promotions. Vargas vs. Manzanilla is a 12-round battle for the WBC Super Bantamweight World Championship presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Promociones del Pueblo. The event is sponsored by Tecate, “THE OFFICIAL BEER OF BOXING,” and Hennessy “Never Stop. Never Settle.” The event will take place Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. and will be streamed live on DAZN.

That would be the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams.

If you’ve ever watched a Super Bowl before, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of the Patriots. Under quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick, they’ve represented the AFC in eight different championships since 2001, the same year they beat the Rams for their first of five Lombardi Trophies together. They’ve also been in the last two Super Bowls, overcoming a 28-3 deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons in 2016 and then falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017’s 41-33 shootout.

The Rams, meanwhile, won it all back in 1999 but have not taken a title since. This year, they’ve largely coasted through the NFC under the guidance of wunderkind coach Sean McVay, who’s turned quarterback Jared Goff and running back Todd Gurley into MVP candidates and helped L.A. resurrect a long-mediocre franchise.

Winnipeg Jets vs Philadelphia Flyers: Live Stream, NBA Basketball, updates from Preview

The Winnipeg Jets and Philadelphia Flyers meet Monday in NHL action at the Wells Fargo Center. The Winnipeg Jets look for another victory after winning six of their last eight games. The Winnipeg Jets are averaging 3.5 goals per game and are scoring on 26 percent of their power play opportunities. Patrik Laine leads Winnipeg with 25 goals, Blake Wheeler has 52 assists and Mark Scheifele has 119 shots on goal. Defensively, the Winnipeg Jets are allowing 2.8 goals per game and are killing 81.2 percent of their opponents power plays. Connor Hellebuyck has given up 103 goals on 1,145 shots faced and Laurent Brossoit has allowed 24 goals on 421 shots. The Winnipeg Jets have allowed three or less goals in six of their last eight games.

The Philadelphia Flyers look for a spark of consistency after splitting their last eight games. The Philadelphia Flyers are averaging 2.9 goals per game and are scoring on 13.3 percent of their power play opportunities. Sean Couturier leads Philadelphia with 19 goals, Claude Giroux has 38 assists and Jakub Voracek has 118 shots on goal. Defensively, the Philadelphia Flyers are allowing 3.5 goals per game and are killing 76.3 percent of their opponents power plays. Brian Elliott has given up 34 goals on 384 shots faced and Carter Hart has allowed 30 goals on 366 shots. The Philadelphia Flyers have allowed three or less goals in six of their last eight games.

The Jets are 8-2 in their last 10 games playing on 3 or more days rest, 9-4 in their last 13 road games and 4-1 in their last 5 overall. The Flyers are 4-12 in their last 16 Monday games, 3-7 in their last 10 vs. Western Conference and 4-1 in their last 5 overall. The Jets are 8-20-1 in the last 29 meetings in Philadelphia and 18-40-2 in the last 60 meetings. The over is 4-1 in Flyers last 5 games following a win. The under is 3-1-2 in Jets last 6 overall.

The Philadelphia Flyers have owned the Winnipeg Jets over the years, but they did los an ugly 7-1 contest in the last meeting back in early December. The Jets are playing far better hockey at the moment and have done a lot of their recent damage on the road. The Philadelphia Flyers headed into the all-star break on a bit of a run and home teams often have the edge coming back from a long layoff. However, we’re getting the much more consistent team for a very cheap price. The Jets are top-five currently in money earned this season, while only the Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils have burned more money than the Flyers. I have to side with the Jets here, even if the Flyers and plus money is tempting.

TCU vs Texas Tech: Live Stream, College Basketball, updates from Preview

Texas Tech has snapped its three-game losing streak.Next on the agenda is halting its three-game slide in Big 12 play. The No. 14 Red Raiders look to post their first conference victory since Jan. 12 when they host TCU on Monday night in Lubbock, Texas.

Texas Tech (16-4, 4-3) dropped consecutive Big 12 contests to Iowa State, Baylor and Kansas State before notching a 67-64 victory over nonconference opponent Arkansas on Saturday.

Now the Red Raiders are hoping to recapture the form they displayed during a 15-1 start.
“Definitely feels great to get a win,” senior guard Matt Mooney said after the triumph over the Razorbacks. “Arkansas is a real good team so it feels good to get a win against them, but at the same time we got a lot of work to do to get better. TCU is a real good team so we really can’t celebrate for too long.”

The Horned Frogs (15-4, 3-3) were exceptional on defense during Saturday’s 55-50 win over Florida.TCU allowed its fewest points and recorded its lowest defensive field-goal percentage (30.6) in Jamie Dixon’s 2 1/2 seasons as coach.
The stingy effort was welcome with the Horned Frogs shooting just 36 percent from the field.

“I wouldn’t have believed it at the beginning of the year, but it’s been an emphasis all throughout the year that we were going to have to win some games defensively,” TCU junior guard Desmond Bane said after the win.

“You only hope to make every shot, but if your defense is consistent, you’ll be able to win games even if your shot isn’t falling like tonight.”

Sophomore forward Kouat Noi (22) and Bane (17) combined for 39 of the 55 points.

“There was only 55 points, so pretty much all were at good times,” Dixon said. “We didn’t have any to spare. I don’t know if I’ve ever won a game with 23 points in the second half.

“We’re not the perfect team yet. We’re working on it. Great win.”

Bane is leading the team with a 15.0-point average while Noi is close behind at 14.7.

Senior point guard Alex Robinson averages 12.9 points and 7.7 assists. He needs just 11 assists to pass the school’s career mark held by current graduate assistant coach Corey Santee (575 from 2001-05).

Robinson is also just 16 points away from reaching 1,000 career points. Bane also is closing in and needs 25.Texas Tech coach Chris Beard is a big fan of Robinson.

“Robinson is one of the best guards in our league, and he is probably the best pick-and-roll player in college basketball, in my opinion,” Beard said after the win over Arkansas.

“They’ve done a great job recruiting; they are a really good team. TCU is an NCAA tournament team, TCU is in the fight to win the Big 12 Conference … so in my opinion they are one of the best teams in the country. We will have to play really well.”

The Red Raiders received a career-best 21 points from sophomore guard Davide Moretti in the win over the Razorbacks. Sophomore guard Jarrett Culver made four 3-pointers while adding 15 points.

Culver has team-best averages of 18.5 points and 6.9 rebounds while Moretti (10.4) and Mooney (10.3) are also scoring in double digits.

Texas Tech won both of last season’s meetings and has prevailed in nine of the past 13 tussles.

Duke vs Notre Dame: Live Stream, College Basketball, updates from Preview

It’s hard to think of many times the Duke Blue Devils have looked fallible in ACC play this season, save for their overtime loss to Syracuse where Tre Jones was injured. They topped Virginia, played poorly and still won against Georgia Tech and have rolled otherwise. Mike Krzyzewski’s team aims for that to continue on Monday as they go on the road to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Last time out, Duke honestly didn’t play anything close to their best basketball, even with Jones returning to action to join the likes of Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish. Georgia Tech played them tough, but the Blue Devils still had just too much juice and earned a double-digit win over the Yellow Jackets.

On Monday, Coach K’s Blue Devils face an ailing Notre Dame team. After a 10-3 start in non-confrence play, the wheels of fallen off for Mike Breen’s team. They Irish have lost four-straight coming into this matchup at home and need to turn things around in a big way at 1-6 in ACC play to this point.

The start of Duke largely go unmatched when put up against Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish will need John Mooney, T.J. Gibbs and D.J. Harvey to hit another gear if they want to have a chance at a massive upset.

Head to head, the under is 5-0 in the last five meetings, the favorite is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings and the Bucks are 5-12 ATS in the last 17 meetings in Oklahoma City.

The Bucks have been the benchmark of the Eastern Conference for a while now and they’re in great form as they’ve won 13 of their last 15 games. The Thunder have fallen off the pace lately but they look to be heating up again with four straight wins. The Bucks are a solid 4-1-1 ATS in their last six road games, but I’m sticking with the Thunder at home in what is basically a pick ‘em.

USA vs. Panama: Live Stream, Friendly Time,TV Schedule, updates from Preview

Fans of the United States Men’s National Team will hope Sunday signals the start of a new era, as Gregg Berhalter’s side take on Panama in an international friendly.

The match will be the side’s first since Berhalter was confirmed as new coach and there’s a hope this appointment will bring some much needed stability. The setup has been a mess since the USMNT failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, with the 2017 loss to Trinidad & Tobago still fresh in the minds of many.

With a squad without European-based players at his disposal, this will be a chance for Berhalter to take a look at some new faces who have potential to contribute in the coming years.

Here are the details needed on where to catch this intriguing encounter at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, as well as a preview of what’s to come.

With the likes of Christian Pulisic left out for this friendly, in his first match in charge Berhalter has the opportunity to give some players an opportunity to impress who may not otherwise be involved.

Of the 23 players selected for the training camp for this game and the meeting with Costa Rica next Saturday, 11 have never played for the United States at senior level before.

As noted by Tom Dart of the Guardian, the only three squad members to have played 10 or more games for the team are Paul Arriola, Michael Bradley, Wil Trapp and forward Gyasi Zardes.

According to CBS Sports’ Roger Gonzalez, there are some young players already making their presence known:
Regarding the USMNT — I’m hearing that 20-year-old Djordje Mihailovic (Chicago Fire) has REALLY impressed during camp. Talented midfielder has been a U.S. Youth International.

This scratch squad means it will be hard for Berhalter to put an immediate stamp on the team, although there does appear to be an appreciation that for the United States to get back to a competitive level this process will take time.

It’s something USMNT legend Tim Howard recently commented on when assessing how Berhalter can improve the team.
“He’s without question the right hire,” Howard said, per Gus Elvin of ESPN. “He’s a guy, who as much as he has this calm demeanor, he’s no-nonsense and that’s how he was as a defender. …We have lost an entire year, and that Gold Cup 2019 is looming large, and I believe very quickly after that, World Cup qualifying starts, so there is not a lot of time to prepare the team.”

In terms of style, Berhalter’s Columbus Crew team were renowned for building from deep with the ball, although that type of blueprint will need patience to be implemented fully.
The new manager provided an insight into what supporters can expect from his team in this clip after being appointed in December:

It will be intriguing to see how Berhalter uses these games. While the United States are without key players and at a low ebb, there will still be an expectation on those involved to earn victories for their country, albeit while appreciating they are at the start of a long process.

Panama have been in torrid form as of late, with their three losses at the FIFA World Cup followed up by four defeats and a draw in their last five outings. Manager Hernan Gomez will want to see his players seize this opportunity to score an upset against their struggling CONCACAF rivals nonetheless.

Anthony Barr, Danielle Hunter, Harrison Smith, and Adam Thielen will represent the Vikings for the NFC during the game which pits the two conferences against each other in a more relaxed and fun game where the stars of the NFL come together.

With Super Bowl LIII (stream it right here on still a week away, there’s only one way to get your NFL fix this weekend, and that’s the Pro Bowl.

For the third straight year, the game will be played in Orlando, which seems to have turned into a homefield advantage for the AFC. Since moving the game from Hawaii to Florida prior to the 2016 season, the AFC has gone 2-0 in the Pro Bowl.

The Pro Bowl is now basically a week-long celebration, and things got off to a wild start on Thursday with the annual skills challenge, where Adam Thielen proved that he’s pretty much good at everything. The Vikings receiver stole the show by scoring more points than Andrew Luck in the precision passing challenge, and then he proceeded to help the NFC dominate the AFC in dodgeball. You can catch highlights of the entire skills challenge by clicking here.

Although nearly every team will be represented on Sunday, two teams that won’t have any players on the field are the Patriots or the Rams. With New England and Los Angeles both playing in the Super Bowl, the NFL had to replace players from both teams for the Pro Bowl.
Here’s how you can watch the game, and below that, you’ll be able to see the full roster for each team.
